The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Fatai Owoseni has called on the Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Operational Officers, Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Rapid Response Squad as well as other Sectional Heads to evolve new operational strategies aimed at riding Lagos of criminals.

Owoseni made this call in a lecture he organized for Area Commanders, DPOs, Operational Officers and other sectional Heads in Lagos.

A Police source who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity disclosed that the CP during the lecture frowned at the level of corrupt practices amongst officers and the illegal stop and search extortion of Lagosians thereby calling it stealing.

Our source revealed areas mentioned by the Police boss as having high records of the unwholesome practices by police officers to include; Isheri, Surulere, Jibowu, Onipanu, Badagry amongst other areas.
It was also gathered that he reminded the officers that their duty was to protect lives and property and not to extort and abuse them.

“The Commissioner queried some erring officers and warned them against indiscipline and disobedience to lawful order against all forms of police conducts.

“He encouraged officers, DPOs to nominate police officers for the weekly training as this will help reduce the level of police misconduct”, the source said.

This came just he warned Lagosians against indulging in jungle justice in the state and how officers are to have meetings with traditional rulers, religious groups and other personalities in their community to talk to members of the public on the evil of jungle justice which is on the increase in the state.
