The Lagos state police command has arrested seven members of rival cult groups who allegedly killed two of their members respectively in a reprisal attack in Badagry area of the state.
According to the acting Commissioner of Police, Lagos state, Mr. Edgal Imohimi who made this known in a press briefing in Lagos,”On the 27th of August, 2017, at Badagry area of Lagos, one Ajirero Busari Idowu, male, 22 years and Wetu Adebayo, male, 28 years were killed by suspected cult members. Intelligence investigation led to the arrest of seven suspects by operatives of this command on the 31/8/2017.
“The fact of the case is that on 27/8/17, a suspect, one Sani Ridwan, male, a member of Aiye cult group had a misunderstanding with another Eyee cult member that led to the death of a member of Eyee cult and Wetu Adebayo, also a member of Aiye cult. All suspects will be charged to court immediately”.
He gave the names of the arrested suspects to include; Adewale Kazeem, aged 23 year, Olajide Zanu, aged 21, Sani Ridwan, aged 28 years, Adebisi Adekunle, aged 35 years, Tunde Adekanbi, aged 32 years, Ogunade Femi, aged 28 years and Olufemi Babatunde, aged 30 years.
Fielding questions from the newsmen, one of the suspects, Femi Ogunade denied any knowledge of the incident adding that he was at his shop at Badagry when he was arrested on account of one of the arrested suspects who fingered him as a member of Eyee group.
Though he admitted being initiated into the group in 2015 by a friend at Abule-Ado area of Lagos, he confessed that he had since denounced the group hence his relocation to Badagry where he claimed he hardly knew anybody since he just relocated to the area.
“Since joining the cult, I didn’t benefit anything. My own is just to do my business but I blame myself for involving myself in things like this”, he said in tears.
On his part, a member of Aiye cult group, Sani Ridwan recalled that he went to watch football match on that Sunday when he was pursued by members of Eyee cult group on his way back home which made him to run for his life and escaped unhurt.
“So, in the afternoon, when I was in a birthday party, one of Aiye boys said I should take him to where they pursued me. So, on getting there, the guy shot one of the Eyee boys and fled for our lives. I was not the one who shot the boy”, Ridwan said.
He disclosed that he had been a member of the cult three years now and was initiated by some group of boys who told them that they were going for a birthday party only for them to be thoroughly beaten and initiated at the end of the day.
He however warned youngsters “not to embark on this kind of stuff”, as he admitted gaining nothing as a member of the cult group.
