The Lagos state Police command has arrested six armed robbery suspects in Surulere area of the state.
The acting Commissioner of Police, Lagos state, Mr. Edgal Imohimi who made this known while parading the suspects at the Command’s headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos said that the arrest was made possible following a prompt information volunteered by the members of the public.
According to him,”On the 11th of September,2017, at about 1915hrs, at Rabiatu Thompson Housing Estate, Shitta area of Surulere, some suspected armed robbers were about going out for robbery operation but because of the gains of community policing and safety partnership and the fact that we are gradually and confidently winning the confidence and trust of the members of the public, a prompt information was sent to our operatives who immediately swung into action that led to the arrest of the suspects.
“Enquiries conducted so far revealed that the group led by one Saidi Kuku, male, are into distribution and selling of very hard drugs which include cocaine, heroine and codeine. The following exhibits were recovered from the suspects; some quantity of cocaine, some quantity of heroine and some quantity of weeds suspected to be Indian Hemp”.
He gave the names of the suspects to include; Saidi Kuku, aged 43 years, Jennifer Injambua, aged 22 years, Habiba Fatai, aged 32 years, Lola Oladumoye, aged 25 years, Michael Ogunfere, aged 37 years and Segun Badmus, aged 27 years.
He recalled that his policing plan would be to go after drug dealers as according to him,”Because I have realized that there is a close connection between commission of crime and abuse of drugs”.
He observed that having realized this, he charged his Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) not to sit in their offices any longer but that they must move out to identify small canopies, buildings, kiosks, sheds where those hoodlums sell Indian Hemp, cocaine and heroine to the youths and children and eventually cause them to cause crime.
He however thanked Lagosians for coming out en masse to the various town hall meetings he had held where he rolled out his policing plan and strategy for policing the state which he said was based in the philosophy of community policing and community safety partnership.
“I also want to thank Lagosians for understanding the concept of my policing plan and for assuring me that they will cooperate with the Area Commanders and the DPOs in putting in place structures that would particularly address issues of residential crimes such as residential robberies at nights.
“Of course, I will continue to thank the press for all your cooperation and support and urge that it continues”, he stated.
