…Establishes Police observation points across Lagos state

The Lagos State Police command has offered to reward any informant who provides credible information that leads to the arrest of criminals in the state.

The new acting Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Edgal Imohimi who disclosed this in his maiden press briefing in Lagos on Wednesday also promised that the identity of the informants would be protected by the police.

According to him,”On the issue of intelligence networking, I intend to improve very greatly, our intelligence gathering capabilities and strategy. Henceforth, I repeat, henceforth, any credible information that leads to the arrest of criminals will be rewarded and I can assure you that the identity of the informants will be protected at all cost”.

Imohimi who recalled that he established an Intelligence Laboratory with the assistance of the Lagos State government at Alausa, Ikeja during his days as Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations in the state observed that the command would be collecting information from different sources and be feeding it to the Intelligence Laboratory where such information was found credible.

He informed that the command had established police observation/ pin down points in all police divisions across the state adding that the pin down points would serve as first point of contact with persons in distress across the state.

“I am telling Lagosians now that when you are in distress, you don’t need to start a long journey to a police station, all you need to do is to locate the nearest stop and search point, police observation point close to you and approach the policemen for assistance. The policemen have been duly charged to take all such complain and take appropriate action.

“I have also increased motorized patrol particularly in the major streets and highways across the state. Maximum utilization of resources is key to fighting crime, you must be able to do a crime pattern analysis of your state and know when and how the resources must be deployed.

“Patrol vehicles will concentrate on highways and on major streets during the peak period when citizens are going to work, when citizens are coming back from work, when they are going about their lawful duties and then when all that is over, late night between 1.am and 5.am, patrol vehicles will be able to concentrate on residential neighborhood”, he said.

The Lagos Police boss noted that on assumption of duty as the acting Commissioner of Police Lagos state, he met with the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders where he solicited their support for a crime free Lagos state saying that it was his belief that where policemen work diligently and wholeheartedly with passion, criminals would flee the city.

He said,”I have told them that during my watch, we will put in our best and Lagosians will be aware that we have put in our best. We will not allow hoodlums have any foothold in this city. The Area Commanders particularly, I informed them of their oversight function as spelt out in our police regulations. It is their duty to ensure all strategies coming from me to the DPOs are implemented and sustained”.
