No fewer than sixteen persons have been arrested by the operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps( LAGESC) for indiscriminate dumping of refuse in unauthorized places in the Lagos metropolis.

In its renewed efforts at sanitizing the Lagos environment, the operatives of the corps embarked on night operations across the state leading to the arrest of the culprits.

The offenders our correspondent gathered were nabbed at Agege motor road, Oshodi, Mushin and Isolo road between the hours of 4:30am – 6:00am.

Speaking on the arrest, the LAGESC boss, Corps Marshal Jimoh Amusat, disclosed that night operations were part of the corps’ new strategies in carrying out its duties adding that it was aimed at targeting and arresting people who were in the habit of dumping refuse all over the state especially at night.

According to him, “In compliance with the Cleaner Lagos Initiative ( CLI) ,refuse bins have been provided and placed in all strategic places across the state for refuse dumping to bring absolute sanity to the state in consonance with global best practices.

He disclosed that the corps had warned that anyone caught violating any provision of the environmental sanitation laws as espoused in the new Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Law 2017 would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
