Boat Mishap: LASWA releases identity of victim

More facts have emerged on the boat mishap that occurred in Lagos this morning killing one person.

A passenger boat, Sealink with 20 passengers and 2 crew onboard coming from ikorodu to CMS ran over a submerged wooden boat close to 3rd mainland bridge.

19 passengers were carried to safety to Ebute-Ero jetty.

The LASWA emergency response team recovered a female body identified as Mary, a police officer attached to Zone 2 police station and handed over the corpse to the marine police.

Her husband is a LASTMA official with Lagos State Government.

A statement from the Managing Director, Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) disclosed that the submerged Sealink boat had been salvaged and towed to a secure location off the waterways while salvaging operations were also taking place to get the submerged wooden boat off the navigable channel.

“Sealink boat crew are also in police custody as investigation is still ongoing”, he said.

The husband of the deceased Primetime Reporters learnt was with her at the time of the incident.
