Following the leadership crisis that is rocking the Association of Registered Freight Forwarders Nigeria (AREFFN) since August last, the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has thrown its weight behind Dr. Fran Ukor led national executive.

In a letter addressed to the National President of AREFFN dated 11th January, 2018, the Registrar of CRFFN, Sir Mike Jukwe reminded all the warring factions in the association that Nigeria is a democratic nation and that all professional associations have since keyed into the democratic system of succession of executive be it local or national.

He added that the freight forwarding profession is operating on democratic system of election that neither the association’s constitution nor the act setting up the Council recognizes appointment into executive positions adding that if any attempt was made to that effect, such appointment is null and void.

“Pursuant to the provisions of section 4(d) of the CRFFN Act of 2007 inter alia, regulating and controlling all associations of freight forwarding agents and also provisions of section 29 of same Act, which confers power to Council to make regulations including the accreditation of associations of freight forwarders in Nigeria as enshrined in official gazette 2010 rule 4 (1) of 813-815. It stipulates conditions for accreditation, ethics of the profession, conduct of freight forwarders and actions that constitute misconduct etc.

“In accordance with this Act therefore, associations are reminded that Nigeria is a democratic nation and all professional associations have queued the democratic system of succession of executive, be it local or national. In the same vein, our noble profession is operating on democratic system of election that neither your constitution nor our Act recognizes appointment into executive position. If any attempt was made, it is null and void.

“The current national executive led by Dr. Frank Ukor is the authentic leadership recognized by Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN)”, Jukwe said.

It will be recalled that the BoT members of AREFFN has appointed an interim national executive led by Alhaji Bala Lawan Daura at the expiration of Ukor’s five year tenure last August to oversee the affairs of the association for a period of one year before election into the executive will be conducted.

However, the National President, Dr. Frank admitted that while his tenure expired on 11th August, 2017, the National Executive Council of the association extended his tenure by six months with a mandate to reconcile all members of the association, organize Annual General Meeting (AGM) and conduct election into the national executive of the association.
