…Holds commendation service for Ekwueme
Determined to ensure that all residents and indigenes of the state participate actively in the commendation ceremony for the late elder statesman and former Vice President of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, the Anambra State Government has declared Thursday, 1st February, 2018 work free day.
A statement issued in Awka, the Anambra State Capital by the Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu stated that the work free day was to enable Ndi Anambra, friends, associates and well-wishers to participate in the commendation ceremony in honour of the late elder statesman by the state government on the same day at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka at 10am.
The statement further informed that all markets and businesses were to remain closed on that Thursday adding that all those attending the commendation ceremony including various social, cultural, religious, political, professional, educational, market men and women and other groups were to be seated by 10.am prompt.
It reads,” As part of the funeral arrangements for the late Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, his Excellency, Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme (GCON), Anambra State government hereby announces that Anambra State commendation ceremony holds as follows; Date: Thursday, February 1st, 2018. Venue: Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka. Time: 10am.
“Please note that Thursday, February 1st, 2018 is work free day in Anambra State. All markets and businesses will be closed on that day to enable Ndi Anambra, friends, associates and well-wishers to pay our last respect to the late Vice President.
“All those attending the commendation ceremony including various social, cultural, religious, political, professional, educational, market men and women and all other groups are to be seated by 10am prompt”.
Born October 21,1932, Ekwueme died on Sunday 19th November 2017 at a London hospital
He served as first elected Vice President of Nigeria from 1979 to 1983 under a former President, Shehu Shagari.
