As the activities of the Fulani herdsmen continue unabated in Benue, Taraba, Adamawa and parts of the country, Public Affairs analyst, Mr. Johnson Chukwu has said that insecurity in the northeast and north central regions of the country will drastically affect productivity in those area.

Chukwu who made this declaration in an interview with our correspondent in Lagos said that in a situation where insecurity leads to displacement of people, also means that labour would be distracted and displaced which would in turn impact negatively on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country.

According to him, “When you have situations where insecurity leads to displacement of people, it also means that labour will also be distracted and displaced. So, locations like the north central, we would have noticed some level of dislocations and you know a lot of them are in the Internally Displaced People’s camp, certainly in these places, there won’t be any productive activities. The same thing applies to the north east.

“These things will have negative effect on the GDP, you will have low level of productivity, and they will have a lot of negativity on the social balance within the economy because when you have the masses displaced from their ancestral home, you are going to have a lot of economic dislocation as well.

“There could be a lot of social issues; you could have people who will get infected there, who are going to be exposed to negative influence, people who could conceive not from their spouses and so many other social ills”.

He therefore urged the federal government to quickly move into the affected areas so as to contain the threat and apparent strain on the scarce resources of government in giving aids to the displaced persons and save the economy from further plunging into crisis.
