The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has said that it will sponsor six of its staff to attend the World Conference of Accountants holding in Australia in November 2018.
The Executive Secretary of the NSC, Barr. Hassan Bello who made this known while playing host to the members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) who paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Tuesday said that this had become necessary to further develop and equip its staff with the necessary skills needed to effectively perform their duty and contribute to the overall growth of the nation’s economy.
Represented by the Director Inland Transport of the Council, Mr. Akin Makinde, the NSC boss described the council as a knowledge driven organization which pride itself on the quality of its staff adding that the Council had been able over the years to maintain high standard of accountability because it made sure that it put in place all the necessary staff with all the best qualification to do the needful.
According to him,” Our accounting, auditing process, everything is one of the best in the industry and we pride ourselves with that and because of the work of an institute like yours who are training high quality manpower for the Nigerian economy.
“We have no course to complain about your members who are working with us, they are holding your flag so high in this place, you have not heard of any fraud here because they know what they are doing and we thank you very much for that”.
Earlier in her speech, the ICAN President, Isma’ila Zakari informed the Shippers’ Council boss of the World Conference of Accountants holding in Sydney, Australia in November this year and pleaded with him to please send his staff both ICAN and ANAN to come to represent his organization at the conference.
Zakari who was represented by the Deputy President, Dame Onome Adewuyi added that Nigeria had been approached to send as many delegates as it can afford saying, “as we go round, we plead with our key organizations to who are professionally driven to please bring their colleagues to come and join us at Australia in November 2018”.
“It is a conference that is going to help build the capacity of our colleagues here and we strongly recommend that the management of this organization take advantage of it. We run annual Accountants conferences, we run zonal Accountants conferences, we want to plead that you always send our colleagues here to join us at those events”, he added.
While expressing the gratitude of the institute to the Council for the employment of ICAN members in its organization, the ICAN boss further pleaded with the Council to engage the services of more of their members in view of the expertise and resources that they had and also the Council’s drive and passion to run a professional organization.
He however described the NSC as being very critical to the survival of this country which according to him was sadly import dependent even as he noted that Nigeria needed a regulator to be able to create a conducive atmosphere for everybody to operate in the economy.
He said,” We want to thank you, the number you have presented is very encouraging, we want to say please, continue to push and let the ports in Nigeria be the number one ports in Africa, even in the world, let us be another Singapore or a hub in Africa that everybody would want to come to do business with.
“Several years ago, we hear that Nigerians go to Cotonou or to the ports of the neighbouring countries to clear their goods because of the challenges we have in the ports but we don’t hear that anymore and I must give credit to yourselves that you have brought down all the bottlenecks that discourage people from doing business in our ports. I say congratulations”.
