A top contender to the National President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Chief Tony Iju Nwabunike has said that he will work to take customs clearing jobs back from serving Customs officers and foreigners who denied licensed customs agents their legitimate duty at the customs ports.
Nwabunike who made this known when he released his Manifesto in Lagos recently through the Senior Special Adviser Media to ANLCA President and National Publicity Secretary aspirant, Mr. Joe Sanni promised to facilitate constructive engagement with Customs, in partnership with the relevant committees of the National Assembly and the Presidency, with a view to attaining a respectable and equal benefits status with clearing Agents.
He also pledged to work for the attainments of one stop shop cargo clearance in the ports and border stations as well as to ensure that no more interventions is carried out by any agencies outside the ports while reducing excessive Alerts, especially from the government and security agencies.
“NASS must be approached as partners to define the duties of security and government agencies in the ports”, he said.
He further promised to ensure standardization of cargo clearing processes and charges as well as encourage and facilitate members to team up to acquire customs licenses.
On shipping companies and terminal operators, Chief Nwabunike who is the Chief Executive Officer of Mac- Tonnel Nigeria Limited pointed out that the arbitrariness with which shipping companies and terminal operators raise their charges needed to be checked through the over sighting Ministries and legislative committees.
While pledging regular and consistent local and international training and retraining programs for members and professionalization of Customs Brokerage business in Nigeria, the Mac Tonnel CEO also said that NECOM under his watch will institute a viable, ICT-driven administration involving every member through the use of social media to communicate with members on a daily basis.
“A functional welfare package will be instituted for members and their families and a healthcare package will be started to routinely check the health status of members at their chapters. NECOM will partner with MDAs, NASS, Presidency and notable Blue Chip companies, with a view to corner all imports and export jobs to be equitably shared amongst our financial membership for execution and funds will be pooled to lend to members at a low rate, to facilitate the delivery of their jobs.
“NECOM will explore all available sources to shore up inflow of funds to support all activities embarked upon by ANLCA. Within the first 180 days of inauguration, NECOM will set in motion a comprehensive review and adoption of a functional constitution.
