The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has appealed to the licensed customs agents not to render services to importers of Tramadol and other substances capable of destroying the youths of this nation and in turn destroy the country.

The Assistant Comptroller-General in charge of Zone A, Lagos, ACG Aminu Dahiru who made the appeal last weekend in Lagos at the swearing in ceremony of the new Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) President, said that Tramadol remained a source of worry to the service particularly, the place he came from adding that there is hardly any family that is not having problem of this Tramadol destruction in it.

In his words,” Then on a personal note, I will want to appeal to your leadership; there is one particular issue that is bothering me and many others. I am not trying to be fictional or sentimental but the truth of the matter is that, please; see what you can do to stop your members from giving their services to those who bring in what will destroy our society. I am referring to Tramadol.

“Tramadol remains one drug that is a source of worry to us particularly, the place I came from. There is hardly any family that is not having problem of this Tramadol destruction in it. Our young people are so much into it, you see someone going to the University but along the line of taking interest in this Tramadol, before you know it, you go to Sokoto in January, you see him at home, you ask, he answers very soon he will go back to school, February, he still at home when school is going on and he stays at home unknown to you that Tramadol has now ruin his schooling.

“So, this is something I will appeal because I believe the bad effect of it will affect the entire nation”.

Dahiru however congratulated the immediate past National President of ANLCA, Prince Olayiwola Shittu for a job well done describing him as a man filled with humility and simplicity, virtues he believed must have been the apparatus he used in making his tenure a remarkable and outstanding one even as wished him all the best in his future endeavors.

He added that the new President of ANLCA, Hon. Tony Iju has the capacity, the charisma and of course, the aura to be the president of the association wishing him well and congratulated him for his success at the poll.

“But I have one thing to say, this is not specifically for the new president but for the leadership wherever it could be, be it big be it small. The most important thing about leadership is that, in recent time, I have discovered that if you stand your leadership on a religious platform to give leadership, you are in trouble. If you stand on ethnic or tribal platform to give leadership particularly in Nigeria, you are in trouble. So, avoid those coming together to elect you without indication whether they come from Muslim or Yoruba, from Hausa, from whosesoever. I will want to advise you to stand on that neutral ground and dispense your leadership.

“The best way to handle matters by a leader is to be firm without bias; you cannot be loose and achieve what you want. A leader is expected to be lenient but without weakness.

“Then with regards to our job, our relationship, I hope and pray that your leadership will bring about improvements in those areas that we used to have problems. We are looking forward as customs officers to see sincere declarations, to see correct valuation, to see less alteration of documents so that together, we move this industry as well as the Nigerian nation forward”, he admonished.
