A former President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) Sir Ernest Elochukwu has called on the new National President of the association, Hon. Tony Iju Nwabunike to eschew any divisive tendencies and make use of many talents that abound within the association irrespective of their political leanings.
Elochukwu who gave this advice in a speech at the swearing ceremony in of Nwabunike held in Lagos recently further advised him to take a cue from the outgone president, make peace and build bridges as much as possible.
In his words,” But as one who technically had actually handed over to Prince Shittu and today Prince Shittu is handing over to someone else, I think my advice will go to the incoming President because as a past President, if anybody tells you that all the glitz and the glamour you are seeing today, that is how it is going to be, forget it, it is not going to be so. it is going to be difficult and one of the things you will get is that just like Christ, there was a Hosanna, then crucify him, those who are part of the house may want to pull it but it is only you that will allow the house to be pulled.
“And one of the things that I need to tell you is that, just like the Board Chairman has said, take a cue from the outgoing person and then make peace, build bridges as much as possible and then, the other one is that, I will advise you too, use talents wherever you find them because most of the time, you will want to talk about those who supported us and those who didn’t support us. For the sake of ANLCA, use talents wherever you see them”.
He reminded the new President that he was not in competition with anybody, urging him to try to do his bit in ANLCA and follow what the rule says even as he pointed out that he won’t be doing much as his duty was to galvanize people to do whatever they need to do
“More importantly is the question I want to put here to you, that you are elected to project ANLCA, please, for goodness sake, project ANLCA. Alliances are good, very good but please check the ones that are strategic and important so that you don’t waste your time and bring a lot of problems for yourself”, he added.
