Following a joint meeting of the National Executive Committee (NECOM), the Board of Trustees (BOT), Zonal Officers, Chapters Executives, and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officers of Customs Licensed Agencies held on Tuesday, at the National secretariat of ANLCA in Lagos, the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has resolved to take part in the rescheduled election into the governing council of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).
ANLCA has before now remain undecided on whether or not to take part in the election which was earlier scheduled to hold on the 16th of May, 2018 but was later postponed by six weeks, now to hold on the 29th of June, 2018 at Abuja.
The National Publicity Secretary of ANLCA, Joe Sanni who made the latest decision of the association on the election known in a statement he issued in Lagos yesterday added that preceding the exercise, CRFFN would afford members of ANLCA the opportunity to register its members in the Eastern and Western Zones (Port Harcourt & Lagos respectively).
Sanni added that ANLCA at its meeting also agreed that being inside to effect changes was better than challenging the actions of CRFFN from outside hence the need to take part in the election.
He submitted that the National President was applauded for securing several waivers for members of the association, as he promised, for the largely onerous eligibility conditions initially set out in the rules and regulations rolled out by CRFFN, especially as it concerned payment of outstanding dues payable by individual members.
“The clauses banning the participation of elected, appointed members of associations, and those that went to court against CRFFN and the Federal Ministry of Transport (FMOT), in the elections, were totally removed.
“Members agreed that the first case challenging the lack of election to constitute a governing council of CRFFN, be withdrawn from court. The second case seeking the categorization of the corporate membership to be defined along professional lines is maintained.
“Some other grey areas, particularly perceived by members as injurious to the future interests of ANLCA, were referred to a joint meeting of the National Executive Committee (NECOM) and Board of Trustees to resolve”, he said.
