The senator representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District of Bayelsa State, Ben Murray-Bruce has challenged the Federal Government to ban bad governance that makes young people so desperate that they have nothing to look forward in life.

Bruce who gave out this challenge in his twitter handle Wednesday was apparently reacting to the Federal Government’s ban on production, importation and sell of codeine containing cough syrup in the country.

He argued that leaders cannot go on insulting the youths for being uneducated when they had not built schools or as lazy when they don’t provide jobs for them to do.

In his words, “Instead of banning codeine, Nigeria should ban the bad governance that makes young people so desperate that they have nothing to look forward to in life.

“We can’t keep insulting them for being uneducated when we don’t build schools or as lazy when we don’t provide jobs for them”.

“It will be recalled that the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, on Tuesday directed the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to ban with immediate effect further issuance of permits for the importation of codeine as active pharmaceutical ingredient for cough syrup preparations.

The Minister noted that the directive became necessary due to the inherent abuse of Codeine usage in the country.
