Fayose dares EFCC, says he’s not afraid of arrest after tenure

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has dispelled fears in some quarters that he may be arrested and dealt with by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as a payback for his affront to the President, Muhammadu Buhari.

Fayose who was speaking in a television programme monitored in Lagos by our correspondent said that those who were waiting for his tenure as governor to end for him to be prosecuted would wait in vain as he had defended Nigerians with good conscience even as he added that he had no apology and would never have one.

In his words,” Who is God on earth? None! What are they talking about? You see all these haunting of people? Let me tell you again and very clearly, that those waiting for me, they will wait in vain. I am Peter the rock, I am telling you this, those waiting for me will wait in vain. I have done everything, I have defended Nigerians with good conscience and I have no apology and I will never have one, if they like, let them lock me up from today till next year, let me tell you, we have seen Presidents and we will still see more”.

On his account that was frozen by the EFCC on account of a ruling entered into by the Justices of the Appeal Court recently, he had this to say,” It was the same case ongoing, we lost the appeal, even when we won at the lower court, they still harassed us back and they didn’t allow them to pay us, worry less about freezing of my account. Those accounts will not be there forever, I will still defeat these people, they can only give me set back momentarily. These EFCC people are persecutors; they are not prosecutors; that is why they lose cases every day. We have appealed the ruling”.

On the apologies tendered by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to Nigerians, the governor explained that PDP as a party that had served this country might have made some mistakes since it was not perfect but quickly added that the All Progressives Congress government in place in Nigeria today was making worst mistakes.

He continued,” Let me tell you very clearly, they (APC) have no agenda. When the President was to be elected, I keep telling Nigerians, this person is going to mess you up, I didn’t hide. I was clear to say things will not go well under this administration and if you see the disappointment in the minds of Nigerians, if you see the way they feel today, they are always regretting and biting their fingers and saying that, how did we get here.

“Under President Goodluck Jonathan, Dollar was N197, President Buhari said it will become $1 to N1 but instead of $1 to N1, it went to N500 and eventually came down to N370. Like I said to you, everybody that worked morning till night would not be a perfect man till the close of the day but that is not to say that these people have fared more than we have done. They have not done anything new.

“Do you know that President Buhari was never given opportunity to rule Nigeria, he looked like an angel coming; now President Buhari has come and has abandoned Nigerians, you will see what will happen in this election. In our place, we say if you miss road, you have two options, either you trace your way back or you stop wherever you are. Nigerians are grossly disappointed”.
