Barely two days to the conduct of election for the freight forwarding practitioners into the its Governing Council, the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has again postponed the election scheduled for Friday 29th of June, 2018.
The Registrar of CRFFN, Sir Mike Jukwe who announced the postponement yesterday via a text message to the leadership of the registered freight forwarding associations which was sighted by our correspondent noted that the election was put off until further notice.
Jukwe disclosed that as a result of the postponement of the election, accreditation of voters earlier scheduled to hold today would no longer hold.
The message read,” Dear Sir/Madam, I am directed to inform you that the election of Practitioners to the CRFFN Governing Council earlier scheduled to hold on Friday, 29th June, 2018 has been postponed until further notice. As a result, there will be no accreditation of voters tomorrow, Thursday, 28th June, 2018. With best regards. Sir Mike Jukwe, Registrar”
No reason was advanced for the postponement this time around.
It will be recalled that the election was earlier scheduled to hold on the 16th of May, 2018 but was shifted to the 29th June, 2018 to allow for more consultations with the freight forwarding practitioners as well as to give room for members of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) to withdraw their pending case against CRFFN from the court.
Also confirming the postponement, the National President of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Chief Increase Uche in a statement in Lagos said, “This is to officially inform all NAGAFF members that the accreditation of voters for the CRFFN Council election slated for tomorrow Thursday June 28, 2018 and the voting of Contestants scheduled to take place on Friday June 29, 2018 has been postponed based on the text messages i received from the Registrar, CRFFN.
“Consequently, the earlier notice to our members to visit the CRFFN Secretariat to get accredited will no longer hold. You are hereby this text advised to go about your normal businesses. Further information on the new dates for the above exercises shall be communicated to everyone by Monday July 2, 2018. Please bear with us as we sincerely regret the inconveniences this sudden change may have caused you”.
On his part, a chieftain of ANLCA, Mr. Pius Ujubuonu blamed the postponement on freight forwarders’ unbridled protests, unguarded vituperations through incessant press releases, text messages that permeate the main seat of power adding that “The cumulative effects of these seeming indiscretions sold the Council as a gold mine and the attendant interest and present take over.
“We have lost authority to government as in Shippers’ Council, mark my word, Drs. Ikhokide and Eugene Nweke’s ouster sounds the death knell. This is my naive observation. It would eventually end with subventions as opposed to percentage shares of the booty”.
