…Says ban on open grazing answer to senseless killings
A retired Army officer, Captain Casmir Nwafor has expressed shock over the gruesome murder of over 200 people in Plateau State last weekend by men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.
Nwafor who made his feelings about the killings known in a statement he issued yesterday described the reaction by the National President of Miyetti Allah that the killing may be a revenge of about 90 cows killed by unknown men in Plateau as the most painful aspect of the dastardly act.
“Revenge on humans for death or loss of cows?! While I do not encourage any form of criminality including theft of killing of animals, seeking revenge on humans for death or loss of animals is most callous and inhuman!” he said.
Nwafor who is aspiring to represent the people of Orumba North/South Federal Constituency of Anambra State in the 2019 general election on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) however regretted that the issue had been on for long now without any serious legislative action by the National Assembly.
He therefore believed that “the only end to these senseless killings by herdsmen terrorists is a law banning open grazing in the entire space called Nigeria”.
“What are these men in the National Assembly doing especially now that they can get a whopping majority from the Southern regions, North Central and some parts of North West regions to form an overriding veto power should the President fail to sign the Bill when passed? What’s the cause of this lackadaisical attitude to the waste of innocent lives? Why can’t people elected into office perform their duties in the interest of their constituents?
“Nigerian Voters please wake up and shine your eyes. Another election beckons; don’t send men in napkins to the National Assembly”, he admonished.
