Senate President Bukola Saraki has arrived the Senate Chamber after a fresh invitation from Nigeria Police Force.

Saraki entered the chamber by 10:40 am and is currently presiding over plenary.

His arrival at the Senate Chambers comes after security operatives were seen at his residence and the residence of Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekeweremadu on Tuesday morning.

His convoy was reportedly blocked by security operatives hindering him from leaving his residence.

It is however not clear how the Senate President manoeuvred his way out of his residence despite the heavy security presence at his residence.

Meanwhile, Senator Dino Melaye, former Governor of Kano, Rabiu Kwankwaso and 13 other Senators from the All Progressives Congress (APC) have defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki made the announcement on Tuesday during plenary.

Other Senators include Barnabas Gemade (Benue), Shaaba Lafiaji (Kwara), Rafiu Ibrahim (Kwara), Abdulazeez Nyako (Adamawa), Monsurat Sunmonu (Oyo) and Usman Nafada (Gombe).

Also defected are; Senators Suleiman Hunkuyi, Ibrahim Danbaba, Ubale Shittu, Isah Misau, Suleiman Nazif, Soji Akanbi.

After the announcement by the Senate President, some Senators started chanting “PDP”, in the chamber.

The Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan, however, appealed to the defecting Senators not to defect.

He noted that the ruling party APC has its own internal disagreement but “this does not translate to fractionalization, therefore, they (Senators) have no reason to defect”.

This to my mind smacks leathal rather than healthy politics.

Why can’t we be just be thinking smart like the rest of the smart thinking peoples of the world???
