The Federal Executive Council has approved the sum of N72.9 billion for the reconstruction of the Oshodi-Apapa expressway.

The road begins from Apapa to the toll gate on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, made this known to State House Correspondents in Abuja after the weekly cabinet meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Fashola said that the decision was taken to provide a long-term solution to the road, which had suffered much gridlock in recent times.

He said that the project would be executed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with the Dangote Group.

When completed, the road will have ten lanes, five on both sides, with a total of Two hundred and seventy point eight linear kilometres, including drainage, rehabilitation of some of the bridges and interchanges.

Recall that the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo had last week, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos on the deplorable state of port access roads promised that reconstruction work would commence on the Oshodi- Apapa Expressway within two weeks from the day of the meeting adding that efforts were on to get the necessary approvals for the reconstruction of the road.
