There are indications that the Minister of Transportation, Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi may soon inaugurate the Governing Council of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) after months of delay.
It may be recalled that the Federal Government, had few months ago appointed its own nominees to the Governing Council leaving the freight forwarders to conduct election of the practitioners into the Council from whom the Chairman of the Governing Council is to be elected.
Consequently, the CRFFN in July conducted election for the practitioners where fifteen (15) freight forwarder were elected to represent the professionals in the council even as the CRFFN management went ahead to release the date and timetable for a retreat and subsequent election of the Chairman and the Vice Chairman of the Council which eventually was postponed indefinitely on the order of the Minister.
All enquiries into the reason behind the indefinite suspension did not yield any fruit as nobody was told the reason behind the indefinite postponement of inauguration thereby leaving the practitioners to speculate and ultimately losing hope of the Governing Council ever being inaugurated by the Minister of Transportation.
However, hope started to rise on Wednesday as the freight forwarders got the wind of the invitation by the Minister of the Governing Council members to a meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.
A short invitation extended to all members of the CRFFN Governing Council by the Registrar of the Council, Sir Mike Jukwe and sighted by our correspondent read,” On the directive of the Honourable Minister, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, it is with the highest sense of responsibility and humility that you are invited to a meeting with him as follows:
“Date: Tuesday, 30th October, 2018
“Time: 11am prompt
“Venue: Conference Hall, 8th Floor, Federal Ministry of Transportation Headquarters, Central Area, Abuja.
“Further details will be communicated to you in due course”.
Although the details of the meeting were not disclosed but industry watchers believed that the meeting may not be unconnected with the much expected inauguration of the CRFFN Governing Council which Primetime Reporters learnt that the Minister was keen at bringing to reality.
It may be recalled that the tenure of the former members of the CRFFN Governing Council expired since 2012 and the council had been without a Governing Council since then thereby bringing activities of that critical sector of the industry to a halt with a devastating effect on the practitioners who has been without training and regulation since then.
