The Lagos State Police command has arrested one Madubuike Chukwunonye, a former staff of Emzor Pharmaceutical Industries Limited for unlawful distribution of controlled substances in breach of the drugs laws of Nigeria.

The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, Mr. Imohimi Edgal who disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday said that Emzor Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, had on 1st May, 2018 reported a case of unlawful distribution of controlled substances in breach of the drugs laws of Nigeria against the suspect.

Edgal pointed out that the said Madubuike Chukwunonye, while in the employment of Emzor, had access to limited quantities of Emzolyn with Codeine for the purpose of distribution to licensed retail pharmacies under his assigned territory, but due to greed for money, he knowingly supplied these controlled drugs to persons who were not supposed to have access to them in the first place contrary to the dictates of the drug laws of Nigeria.

He noted that the suspect who has been on the run since May, 2018 was eventually arrested by the operatives of the command, attached to Area ‘D’ Headquarters, at Idi Iroko Border town of Ogun State while trying to escape into Cotonou, Benin Republic.

According to him,” You will recall that the BBC did a broadcast on the activities of the subject, who was caught on camera selling restricted drugs to a BBC undercover investigator named Adejuwon Soyinka a.k.a. Mr. Johnson.

“In his statement, he averred that he was only trying to meet his sales target and that the BBC man was introduced to him by one Pascal as a genuine businessman without verifying the former’s identity as a Pharmacist.

“He regretted selling controlled substances to unauthorized persons”.
