Police arrest fleeing kidnappers, one other in Lagos

The Lagos State Police command has arrested a 5-man gang who allegedly kidnapped a victim at Owerri in Imo State, in their hideout at Igando area of the state.

The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Edgal Imohimi who disclosed this in Lagos on Wednesday while briefing journalists said that the command received a credible information that the suspects, after collecting millions of Naira as ransom for the release of the victim, vanished with his Toyota 4Runner Jeep and had regrouped at Igando searching for people to kidnap.

Edgal added that on receipt of the information, he directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Igando Division to work hand-in-hand with FSARS Operatives, Ipakodo base, to arrest the criminals saying that in the process, the operatives arrested one Kenneth Chinedu, ‘M’, a member of the kidnapping gang who later led them in the arrest of other gang members, namely: David Obiora a.k.a Emperor ‘M’ 21 years, Ogbuje Gift a.k.a Baron ‘M’ 23 years, Ogu Obu ‘M’ 31 years and Lawrence Ndubuisi ‘M’ 30 years.

He noted that exhibits recovered from the suspects included one Toyota Highlander with REG No. EKY-744-FIH and one Toyota Sienna Bus, REG No. EPE-326-FH.

According to him,” During interrogation, they confessed to the crime. They admitted that they collected the sum of Six million naira (N6,000,000.00) from their two previous victims, one, a lecturer at Imo State University and the other a Medical Doctor whose Toyota 4Runner Jeep, they stole despite collecting ransom money from his relations.

“They also confessed to series of robberies/car snatching which they carried out in Lagos and its environs, they led operatives in the recovery of a stolen Toyota High Lander Jeep Reg. No. EKY-744-FH and one Toyota Sienna bus with Reg. No EPE-326-FH. According to them, they snatched these vehicles from their owners.

“They also mentioned other gang members who are still at large. Efforts are on to apprehend them and recover their firearms still in the hands of the fleeing criminals”.

The CP however said that investigation was ongoing and that the suspects would be prosecuted on the conclusion of investigations.

In a related development, the command has arrested one Chima Ejikeme, ‘m’ aged 28 years at the Ojo area of Lagos following his involvement in robbing traders at Alaba International Market.

According to the Lagos Police boss who recounted how the suspect was arrested, “On the 18/09/2018, information was received from reliable source that some dare devil armed robbers were sighted robbing traders unchallenged at Alaba International Market.

“On receipt of the information, FSARS Operatives stationed at Mowo-Badagry, swiftly mobilized to the scene.  On sighting the operatives, the robbers ran in different directions but one of them, named Chima Ejikeme, ‘m’ aged 28 years, was arrested.  He was immediately searched and a cut to size locally made gun with three (3) live cartridges wee recovered from him.

“During interrogation, he confessed to be a member of a five-man-armed robbery gang. He also confessed to belong to VIKINGS a.k.a. Arobaga terrorizing Ojo and its environs.

“Investigation is ongoing with a view to arresting other members of the gang still at large for prosecution”.
