Slain Cultists: Police dismiss news of impending attack on Bariga, Shomolu, Onipanu

The Lagos State Police command has said that there is no truth in the news making the rounds on the internet that “The funeral activities of some slain cult members scheduled to hold on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, in Bariga, Shomolu and Onipanu areas in Lagos may become violent”.

A statement issued in Lagos by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Chike Oti, also quoted the writer as going ahead to advise members of the public to be”cautious and avoid late night outing”.

The statement however said that there is no cause for alarm in any part of the state adding that the entire state is safe, secure and is being policed by dedicated men and women who are on foot, motorcycle, air, vehicular and boat patrols every day.

It urged members of the public, particularly those in Bariga, Shomolu and Onipanu areas to regard the news about the impending mayhem, as baseless, unfounded and a handiwork of a jobless alarmist.

“As a matter of fact, the corpses of the deceased cult leaders are still in the mortuary and the police have not released them to their families. So, it is untrue to say that their burial will hold today.

“Criminals are hereby warned to stay off the state as the command will swiftly round them up even before they have the chance to strike in any part of the state.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Edgal Imohimi, once again  assures members of the public of their security at all times and admonishes them to take stories emanating from social media platforms with a pinch of salt”, the statement said.

It will be recalled that two persons identified as Ibrahim a.k.a Small Japron and one Solo, (surnames unknown), were recently killed at a political gathering allegedly organized by Hon. Ademorin Kuye at Home Touch, situated at No. 228, Ikorodu Road by Obanikoro Way, Lagos.

It was gathered that the deceased persons, who had involved in several cult clashes, were on the wanted list of the police for leading several cult fights in the Shomolu, Bariga, Fadeyi and Ojuelegba areas of the state.

Investigations revealed that they were trailed to the gathering by a rival cult group who invaded the arena and began to attack people.

The fight was however brought to an end by the police who arrived quickly at the scene and made some arrests but unfortunately for the notorious cultists, Ibrahim (a.k.a Japron) and Solo, they died as a result of injuries sustained during the fight.
