Following the appointment of Alhaji Abubakar Tsanni as the Chairman, Governing Council of the Council for the Regulation Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) by the Minister of Transportation, Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in Abuja last week, the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has said that it may reject him as the Council Chairman.
In a statement widely circulated on the social media by the association, one of which was sent to our correspondent, NAGAFF stated that it shall make appropriate and clear statement shortly on the development after due consultation with its legal team in the Council.
It however advised all members of the association to keep calm and remain law abiding in the face of what it called avoidable impunity in the country.
“We regret to state that it is sad to note that some of our leaders other than to uphold the law may have decided to turn themselves to become the National Assembly of Nigeria whose mandate is to make good laws for the good governance of our country.
“And for the records, the law establishing CRFFN states that the Chairman/Vice Chairman of the CRFFN shall be persons elected from the register of freight forwarders kept by the Registrar of the council. It is on record that the first council Chairman and its Vice were elected in accordance with the provisions of the Council Act.
“It is on record and a fact that Mrs. Ezenwa of the Transport Ministry indicated interest to contest the Chairmanship of the first council representing the Transport Ministry as an appointee was disqualified. It is also a fact that Dr. Eugene Nweke representing south east in the second council became disqualified when he sort to contest for the council Chairmanship. What has just happened in the council is regrettable”.
It will be recalled that a federal government appointee, Alhaji Abubakar Tsanni was appointed as the Chairman of the Governing Council of CRFFN against the provisions of the Act establishing CRFFN which provided that the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Council will only come elected freight forwarders in the Council, a development which had not gone down well with the freight forwarding practitioners in the country.
