ANLCA crisis deepens as Western Zone recognizes Emenike Nwokeoji as National President

Following the recent media reports that quoted the National President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Chief Tony Iju Nwabunike as saying that Chief Henry Njoku faction of the Board of Trustees of the association would conduct the forthcoming Western Zone chapter elections, the Western Zone has resolved not to recognize him as the National President of the association until the final determination of the case filed against him challenging his purported victory in the last National Executive Committee (NECOM) election.

In a six point communiqué issued in Lagos and signed by the Coordinator Western Zone, Sir John Ofobike, the Secretary Western Zone, Alhaji Bayo Oyekangun and eight out of the nine chapters that make up the zone, the Zone however said that it would henceforth recognize Chief Tony Iju Nwabunike’s opponent in the last NECOM election, Mr. Emenike Nwokeoji as the National Presiednt of ANLCA.

The Communiqué reads, “Sequel to the deliberate and persistent refusal by Mr. Tony Iju Nwabunike and some NECOM members of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) to give peace a chance in the Board of Trustees as ably led by Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha, we the members of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents in the Western Zone hereby resolved as follows:

“We would like to state categorically clear that membership of this great association in the Western Zone is not in any way constituted based on any tribal sentiment. Irrespective of our cultural and religious background, we remain committed to one indivisible united family with our brothers and sisters in the eastern zone.

“In view of the recent media declaration by Mr. Tony Iju Nwabunike on the Board of Trustees issue, we hereby resolve ad declare that we shall no longer recognize him as President until the final determination of the case filed against him challenging his purported victory in the last NECOM election.

“Mr. Tonu Iju Nwaunike’s refusal to recognize the outcome of the election that produced Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha is tantamount to standing truth on its head.

“It is on record that Tony Iju Nwabunike became President after defeating Emenike Nwokeoji with only 3 votes which resulted in the so called manipulated victory. In the same vein, Alh. Taiwo Mustapha defeated Henry Njoku with 3 votes in the Board of Trustees election. On this note, we hereby recognize Mr. Emenike Nwokeoji as President of ANLCA.

“We hereby enjoin all members of the Western Zone to refrain from participating in any ANLCA activities called by Tony Iju Nwabunike led NECOM.

“We shall resist any attempt to intimidate, harass or coerce any member in the Western Zone of ANLCA in furtherance of this directive”.

It is instructive to note that it was only the Murtala Mohammed International Airport chapter Chairman that did not append his signature in the said communiqué.

My heart bleeds over the unfolding imminent fictionalisation of ANLCA. Every concerted effort must be made by past and present leaders who for the love of the Association must accommodate all to ensure that this crises in ANLCA is curtailed before it festers and snowballs into a mega conflagration akin to the crises several years back at Elssy Centre Festac Town between OODUA AND IGBO MARITIME FORUMS that almost terminated the lives of several Igbo sons like Pius Ujubuoñu,Obi Cee Okonkwo and others.
It must be recalled that at the peak of that crisis OODUA and IGBO Maritime Forums after several futile attempts at resolution of the crises towards a new EXCO election ,mutually agreed to constitute a 10 man peace and reconciliation committee (5 each) towards a lasting peace -we ( my humbleself,Dim Peter Obi,Princr Ozo Chukwura and 2 others) worked extremely hard with our OODUA colleagues and atimes almost exchanging blows over mundane tribal issues in an old Association that must be national indeed by all ramifications,we got home most times in the wee hours of the next day yet at the end , unbridled ego set in and most of our recommendations were jettisoned resulting in an audacious invasion of ELLSY CENTER by OPC wing of ODUA MARITIME led by SIRKAY-KAYODE OYINLOLA of blessed memory consequent upon which our beloved brothers almost lost their precious lives.
The likes of former ANLCA President Alhaji Inua Mohammed,Chief Henry Njoku,Chief Kingsley Onyejeocha( KINGZOL MARITIME&OWNER OF ELSSY CENTER) and a host of other top IGBO prominent leaders and Licenced Customs Agents all ran for their dear lives while Police and SSS intervened to restore normalcy and the rest is now history that is unfortunately about to repeat it’s self.WHY?
The point here is all wars definitely ends on a round table after loss of several innocent souls that painfully leaves avoidable indelible sorrow and transferred hatered, therefore the prime leadership position of ANLCA amongst other sister Freight Forwarding Associations and it’s ability to nip in the bud every squabble that tends to fictionalise it must be upper most to all as ANLCA will outlive all of us thereby bequeathing anarchy to the succeeding generation if we so wish.
I therefore appeal for equity, justice and, respect for the Supreme constitution of ANLCA MUST suffice.
“Let peace rain please as violence begets violence,an eye for an eye leaves a Country blind”
