The Lagos State Police command has arrested six suspects in connection with a fire outbreak at Isopako Awori, Abulegba area of Lagos on December 18, 2018.

The suspects are; Rasak Oyakunle a.k.a. Akeregun, Abdulazeez Agbola a.k.a Biggy, 29 years, Akin Ayansola a.k.a Babalati, 44 years, Kazeem a.k.a Aladija, 50 years, Saheed Isiola a.k.a Obama, 36 years and Adedipe Dauda Ewenla, 40 years who was on police wanted list as a result of the incident.

The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, Mr. Edgal Imohimi who released the above information to newsmen during a press briefing in Lagos on Tuesday said recalled that the fire emanated from NNPC Pipeline that was deliberately ruptured by vandals in their bid to siphon Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from the broken pipe.

Edgal observed that the consequence was a huge ball of fire that consumed about 100 houses and 77 vehicles worth several millions of Naira.

He added that following the incident, operatives of the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, were detailed to investigate the incident and ensure the arrest of those behind the crime.

According to him, “The operatives mobilized to the scene, picked up some pieces of evidence for analysis which led to the arrest of one Rasak Oyakunle a.k.a Akeregun.

“During interrogation, he confessed committing the crime.  He further revealed that he owns an electric generator repairing workshop situated right on the spot where the ruptured pipeline was laid.  He said that the location of the workshop on the petroleum pipeline was to enable them siphon fuel undetected.

“The gang has been in the business of stealing petroleum product for many years until they met their waterloo on 18/12/2018”.
