The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 elections and former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has applauded the judiciary as truly, the defender of Nigeria’s democracy.

Atiku Abubakar made the assertion while responding to the verdict of the election petition tribunal upholding the election of the PDP candidate in the 22 September, 2018 governorship election in Osun state, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

The Waziri Adamawa noted that the restoration of the stolen mandate of Senator Adeleke showed that indeed the judiciary is the last refuge of the common man and that in truth, those who were aggrieved and resolved to maintain the peace, have been vindicated.

He congratulated Senator Adeleke, the PDP and men and women of goodwill in Osun State, who did not waver in their commitment to retrieve the stolen mandate.

“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy has come for the people of Osun”, he said.

The PDP presidential candidate commended the courage of the judiciary and its resilience even in the face of strenuous efforts by the APC-led government to undermine and intimidate it.

According to the former Vice President, the decision of the judiciary on the Osun governorship election was phenomenal in view of the culture of inconclusive elections by INEC in this season.

The judgment, he said, had rekindled hope and confidence that those whose mandate had been tampered with or denied can look forward to justice being done to them.

Atiku Abubakar however urged the judiciary to remain steadfast as the eyes of all Nigerians and indeed the whole world were on them to help ensure that democracy in Nigeria was put on a solid foundation.

On his part, the Vice Presidential candidate of the PDP in the Feb. 23rd election, Mr. Peter Obi has commended the Nigerian Judiciary on the victory of Sen. Ademola Adeleke and the PDP at the tribunal.

Obi made this known through his Media Adviser, Mr. Valentine Obienyem.

Obi who described the judgement as the triumph of justice over the dictatorship of injustice aided by forces that do not mean well for the country, advised the APC not to appeal the judgement which, Obi says, if they do, will be a clear attack of a judgement that is both straightforward and redeeming.

Obi took the opportunity to encourage the judiciary to continue to be steadfast in the dispensation of justice especially now, according to him, other arms of Government were bent on fostering dictatorship on the country.

“As the bulwark of freedom and justice, once the judiciary capitulates, the country is as good as gone”, Obi said.

Analyzing the effect of the judgment to nation-building, Obi said it renewed the faith of Nigerians in the judiciary as the last hope of the common man.

Concluding, Obi appealed to Nigerians to remain united in the fight against rigging, especially during the forthcoming supplementary elections.

Describing rigging as the worst form of corruption, Obi said any nation that encouraged  or condoned it  was sick unto death and must at least allow the judiciary to restore her through painful surgery.
