The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and other top government officials are expected to be special guests of honour at the maiden edition of the Nigeria Ghetto Awards (NGA) billed to hold later in the year in Lagos.
The event which has been slated to hold on May 11, 2019 at the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos at 7.00pm will be preceded by a mini exhibition at same venue from 8.00am.
Speaking at a press briefing to unveil the event in Lagos yesterday, the Chief Patron of Black Waves Promotions Nigeria Limited, Mr. Ralph Agbogu said that the Nigeria Ghetto Awards (NGA) was an initiative of Balck Waves Promotions Nigeria Limited, an entertainment and show-biz promotion outfit registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
Agbogu noted that part of the mandate of the company was to discover hidden talents in all the nooks and crannies of the country and showcase them to the world adding that areas of its focus were mainly ghettos and rural communities where many of those talents abound and waiting to be showcased.
He observed that Black Waves Promotions was using the occasion of the Nigeria Ghetto awards to recognize people who had weathered the ugly circumstances, stigma and all the odds that were associated with being born and raised in the ghettos to become pacesetters, stars and achievers in their chosen fields.
“These personalities, many of whom today have become role models can be found in the entertainment industry like music, arts and movies; football, banking, journalism, civil service and various professions. They abound in Nigeria.
“For our NGA, a celebrity like Daddy Showkey is the Ambassador as he can be described as the ‘Father of Ghetto celebrities’. Daddy Showkey would have been here with us at this briefing but could not because he is presently in the United Kingdom but ably represented by his Manager, Mr. Charles Jojo popularly known as Jojo.
“Our stay in this venue to address you is deliberate as it is symbolic because no other place would have served our objective better than Ajegunle, which to us represents a ghetto city. We are celebrating products of ghettos. Ajegunle by our estimation is number one ghetto in the country being a suburb of Nigeria’s Centre of Excellence. Ghettos are like furnances that bring out the best in metals”, he said.
Agbogu who is also the public Relations Officer (PRO) of the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA) further disclosed that one week before the event, precisely on May 4, 2019, there would be a Ghetto Walkout when all stakeholders, supporters and friends were expected to trek from the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu to the National Stadium in Surulere, all in branded T-Shirts and caps even as he added that the takeoff time for the exercise would be 7.00am.
He continued, “The essence is to keep fit and also create more awareness on the forthcoming Awards. We look forward to sponsors utilizing the opportunity to promote their products or services to the world. The safety of all participants is assured as various security agencies will be involved to ensure a hitch-free exercise.
“It is expected that the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, will be the Special Guest of Honour with other government officials from both Lagos and the Federal Government being in attendance. We solicit the media’s support as partners in progress as we shall be updating you from time to time as events unfold”.
Dignitaries who graced the press briefing were Mr. Charles Jojo a.k.a Jojo, Mr. Friday Igwe a.k.a Baba Fryo, Professor Linking, Mr. Emeka Enwelu, MAJAN President, Mr. Ray Ugochukwu and Mr. Okezie Success of Black Waves Promotions among others.
