ANLCA Board of Trustees to be reconstituted soon – Farinto

The National Vice President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Dr. Kayode Farinto on Tuesday said that the association will soon set the machinery in motion towards reconstituting its Board of Trustees (BoT) which he described as the problem of the association at the moment.

Farinto who made this known while addressing members of ANLCA National Executive Committee (NECOM) at the association’s National Secretariat in Lagos stated that in the next few months, electioneering campaign would commence for those who have intention of being elected as members of the Board as the tenure of the present Board members would elapse in in January or February of 2020.

He added that the constitution of the association stipulated that election into the Board should be conducted ninety days to the expiration of the tenure of the current Board members hence the need to sensitize members about the election.

He therefore opined that NECOM would ensure that people who would be elected into the coming Board were people of integrity and not people who would be bent on destabilizing the modest gains made by the association with their selfish motive.

In his words,” The problem of ANLCA is the Board of Trustees of ANLCA but thank God there is opportunity for us to reconstitute another Board. In the next few months, there will be electioneering period for whoever wants to be a member of the Board because by January or February 2020, the tenure of the present Board will expire and our constitution says that ninety days before the expiration of the tenure of the existing Board, there will be election.

“We want to know the kind of characters that will come onboard as Board members. It is not going to be people who are bricklayers or contractors, we will not allow it. If you cannot add value to this association, I personally will campaign against you because I see no reason why former Comptroller-General of Customs who have added value in the industry, who we know that can add value to the association should not be elected into the Board because our Board members should be able to move to the National Assembly, make way for us where we have issues. There are so many issues that we are contending with, there are lots of draft bills in the National Assembly that needs somebody to push it. Not going as contractors, causing problem, adding to agents’ problems even causing problems for the association.

“We will make sure that the next crop of Board members by the grace God, if we are still living will be people of integrity, people with pedigree and not people who will say, I have caused problems for four governments, I am going to cause problem for this NECOM. It shall not be again”.
