Police arrest six for cultism, murder

Arrest one other for murder of NANS’ JCC PRO  

The operatives of Area J of the Lagos State Police command on Saturday at about 10.30am arrested six cultist namely; Babatunde Wasiu, 30 years, of No. 22 Lumo Street, Off Surulere, Lagos, Bolaji Elijah, 25 years, of No. 44 Yewa Road, Pokah Imontun, Epe and Joseph Timothy, 32 years, of No. 5 Okia Jano Street Eredo, Epe.

Others are; Bolaji Olayiwola, 22 years,  of No. 6 Okesuna Street, Obalende, Lagos, Saheed Lateef 22 years,  of No. 13 Baale Obodo Street,  Okeranla Street, Langbasa, Ajah and Julius Augele 20 years,  of No. 13 Obodo Street, Okeranla, Langbasa, Ajah ,Lagos.

Confirming the arrests, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bala Elkana stated that the suspects were arrested in connection with the clash between Eye and Aiye cult groups which occurred on 14th April, 2019 at General Paint, Ajah which left four members of Aiye cult group dead.

While noting that the axes and jack knives which they used during the clash were recovered from them, Elkana added that four suspects were earlier arrested and charged to Court in connection with the incident, bringing the number of suspects arrested so far to ten.

He said, “Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti is investigating the case. Suspects will be charged to Court”.

In a related development, the Lagos State Police command has arrested one Bashiru Ahmed (aka Kawu), 21 years old of Okoko in connection with the murder of the Public Relations Officer, Joint Campus Committee (JCC), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Lagos axis, Comrade Oshin Aderigbigbe at about 11.30 am on the 26th of April, 2019.

The Spokesman of the command, Mr. Bala Elkana who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday said that “On 26/04/2019 at about 11.30am, one Comrade Oshin Aderigbigbe m, later identified as the Public Relations Officer, Joint Campus Committee (JCC), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Lagos axis , reported at Okokomaiko Police Station with blood gushing out of his body and stated that he was attacked by three young men who dispossessed him of his handset and laptop and stabbed him with a knife.

“He was rushed to the hospital but eventually died. The leader of the hoodlums that attacked him, Bashiru Ahmed a.k.a Kawu ‘m’ 21yrs old of Okoko was arrested. He confessed to have committed the Crime along with two of his friends who are now at large.

“The said Bashiru Ahmed, who is the son of a popular traditional ruler in Okoko, is a notorious criminal who was charged to Court on several occasions by the Police for sundry offenses. He returned from prison six months ago and has been on the watch list the Police.

“The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Zubairu Muazu mni has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti for discreet investigation. Detectives have spread their tentacles on the trace of the remaining two suspects on the run”.
