In a move to prevent break down of law and order between Umuchu and Amanasa community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State over the impending Umuchu Improvement Union (UIU) election which has generated tension in the affected areas, the Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command, CP John Abang, on Monday invited all stakeholders of the two communities over the lingering crisis and wades into the matter.
According to a statement on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Haruna Mohammed the remote cause of the problem is the inability to conduct election of the President General, Umuchu improvement Union which was allegedly zoned to Amanasa village and undue interference by some persons in Umuchu community to influence the election.
The statement stated that the Commissioner of Police had successfully reconciled the warring factions and urged them to explore all the legal avenues to resolve their differences without resorting to violence.
It added that the CP further urged them to put all the necessary structures on ground and conduct a credible election in order to ensure an enduring peace in the Communities.
Some of the stakeholders at the meeting include representatives of the State Government, Sir B. C Umerah, Senior Special Assistant to His Excellency, Hon Akaeze Gerald, Special Adviser to His Excellency on local Government matters, Care Taker Committee Chairman Umuchu, Bar. Ezejesi Amos, Nze Felix Ezeoke and Chairman Umuojogroo village.
Others according to the statement are; Mr. Ikechukwu Inyejima A. Igbokwe from Amanasaa, Chairman, Umubilo village, Mr. Celestine Onyeizugbo among others.
