APGA: PDP’s vow to take over Anambra in 2021 a pipe dream

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has described the recent statement by the Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during its 8th stakeholders meeting in Awka, that it would win the 2021 gubernatorial election in the state as “a pipe dream”.

In a statement signed by the state Chairman of APGA, Sir Norbert Obi, the ruling political party in Anambra described PDP’s ambition as “mere wishful thinking”, pointing out that the party died in the state since March 2006, when APGA took over her mantle of leadership.

Obi said that contrary to the bad governance, political instability and mayhem perpetrated by the PDP when it held sway in Anambra between 1999 and 2006, APGA has in the past thirteen years restored law, order and stability to the State, in addition to delivering unprecedented and verifiable democracy dividends.

He explained that this is the reason why Ndi Anambra now regard APGA as their own political party, hence their unanimous reference to it as “nkea bu nke anyi”.

The APGA State Chairman recalled what he referred to as “the numerous unforgivable sins of the PDP against the people and image of Anambra state”, adding that this explained why a global literary icon, late Professor Chinua Achebe, twice rejected the award of National Honour to him by a PDP controlled federal government between 2004 and 2007.

Sir Obi maintained that the image of PDP especially in Anambra state is irretrievably damaged pointing out that the party cannot be trusted again by the masses.

The State APGA chairman equally observed that unlike the PDP,  his party has over the years proved that it is  trustworthy, hence APGA’s total control and domination of Anambra’s politics and government, as demonstrated by its resounding victories in the 2017 gubernatorial poll and this year’s House of Assembly elections in the state.

Sir Obi, further said that apart from many other people oriented accomplishments of the Willie Obiano administration in Anambra, its impressive security architecture and Community Choose Your Projects Initiative have particularly endeared APGA to the citizenry, a reason the party is presently entrenched effectively in the three hundred and twenty six electoral wards of the twenty one local government areas of the state.

The APGA boss reiterated his party’s strong belief in the principles of justice, equity and fairness, maintaining that it would choose Governor Obiano’s successor from the South Senatorial District of Anambra State when the time comes.

The only thing that may be advising the confidence of APGA Anambra State Chairman may be the selfish disposition of politicians in Anambra PDP who would soon adopt do-or-die approach to the gubernatorial pursuit and as in the past, give it by default to APGA.
