Lagos Police in massive arrest of cultists, armed robbers, recovery of arms

Residents of Ilasan in Lekki area of Lagos state will for some time heave a sigh of relief as the operatives of the Lagos State Police command have arrested the leader of an armed gang terrorizing the area, Ibrahim Abu and four others namely; Samuel Usai, John Nwaru, Emmanuel Moro and Michael Daniel.

Confirming the arrest, the command’s spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana said that Ilasan Police station had last Friday at about 1.30pm, received information that a group of hoodlums suspected to be armed robbers/cultists, were sighted behind Angle 90 Bar, Ilasan, Lekki.

According to him, a team of policemen was quickly mobilized to the scene leading to the arrest of the four suspects.

He added that on searching the suspects, one locally made pistol with ten (10) unexpended cartridges were recovered even as he said that investigation was ongoing and that suspects would be charged to Court.

He further disclosed that operatives of Operation Crush, acting on credible intelligence at about 8.30am on the 17th of June, 2019, raided some criminal hideouts within Akerele areas of Agege.

He informed that a total of thirty four suspects known as ”Awawa Boys”, who had been terrorizing the area were arrested while seven (7) bags of weeds, suspected to be Indian Hemp were recovered adding that the suspects were handed over to Taskforce, Oshodi for prosecution.

Elkana continued,” On 16/07/19 at about 0930hrs, youths from Idiroko, Adeola and Ajose of Owutu area in Ikorodu, engaged themselves in a supremacy fight at Idiroko area, Owutu, Ikorodu. In the process, the youths attacked passersby and damaged some vehicles within the area.

“However, combined teams of policemen mobilized to the scene, successfully brought the situation under control and restored normalcy to the area. 38 suspects were arrested and taken to Taskforce, Oshodi for prosecution. Meanwhile, security has been beefed-up in area to forestall further threat to law and order.

“In a related development, on 20th/7/2019 at about 2145hrs, Bariga Police station arrested one Alayakin Azeez Olawale ‘m’ 32 years old at Egbenrogde Street. The suspect was identified as the leader of a group of Aiye confraternity members that had earlier in the day attempted to cause a breach of peace within Bariga town. Investigation in ongoing, suspect will be charged to Court”.
