Operatives of Operation Puff Adder along with patrol team attached to Anaku Division of the Anambra State Police Command at about 9.30pm on 23 July, 2019 foiled a robbery attempt along Ideani/ Alor Road.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesman, SP Haruna Mohammed, the operatives while on stop and search duty around Ideani in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, received a distress call that robbers have blocked the road and were robbing passengers inside a commercial bus.

Following the report, the police operatives rushed to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun battle which lasted for over thirty minutes forcing the robbers to jettison their robbery operation and fled into the bush.

Meanwhile, exhibits recovered at the scene included one cut to size pump action gun and a Mitsubishi L300 bus with Registration NO. XD660JJ belonging to one Onyeka Mgbatogu of   opposite St. Mary Church Awuda, Nnobi in Idemili South Local Government Area snatched at gunpoint.

Manhunt of fleeing suspects is still ongoing in order to arrest and bring them to justice.

Haruna however quoted the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP John Abang as further reassuring all Ndi Anambra that the command under his watch would continue to work assiduously until crime in the State was reduced to the barest minimum.

“The CP also implores well-meaning members of the public resident in the state to cooperate with the Police and report suspicious person(s) or movement(s) to the nearest Police Station or through the command emergency number-07039194332 for prompt action.”
