Ministers of Agriculture and Rural Development resume duty

…Promise to move the Agric sector to next level

Alhaji Mohammed Sabo Nanono and Alhaji Mustapha Baba Shehuri have assumed duties as the new Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) and Minister of State respectively.

Addressing Directors and staff of the Ministry yesterday, in Abuja, the Hon. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Nanono noted that the Agriculture Sector is a key component of Mr. President’s Next Level Agenda.

The Minister pointed out that the “Agriculture sector is the largest employer of labour in Nigeria, adding that if Nigeria gets Agricultural policy right,the country may not only feed its citizens but the  entire West Africa Countries.’’

Nanono Sought for the cooperation of the staff in order for him to succeed.

In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Mohammed Bello Umar pledged their support and commitment to the success of the Hon. Ministers’ tenure.

He also sought the cooperation of members of the Labour Union of the Ministry which he said was necessary for a peaceful working environment.

Alhaji Mohammed Sabo Nanono was a University Lecturer, Civil servant, a Banker who rose to the position of Managing Director of African International Bank (AIB), village Head of Tofai in Gabasawa, a farmer and politician.

Alhaji Mustapha Baba Shehuri was a Council Chairman of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council under the defunct Grassroots Democratic Movement (GDM) from 1997 to 1998.Between 1999 and 2003, Hon. Shehuri was a member of the State House of Assembly representing the Maiduguri Metropolitan State Constituency on the platform of the defunct All Peoples Party (APP). He was a member of the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011, representing the Maiduguri Metropolitan Federal Constituency on the platform of the defunct ANPP. He was the Honourable Minister of State for Power, Works and Housing from 2015 to May 2019.
