As Anambra State marks its International Youth Day, the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has unfolded plans to empower 5,000 youths of the state to enable them stand out on the global stage with their own exceptional talents.
Obiano who was a guest to the International Youth Day celebrated in Awka yesterday said in his address that his government would launch Triple-I- initiative which according to him stands for Inventor, investor initiative, an initiative he said that focuses on discovering youths that have technovative skills and exposing them to venture capitalists that may wish to invest in their ideas for the benefit of the larger society.
He added that his government would also inaugurate the Smart Job Scheme which according to him was an ICT programme that aimed to empower 5,000 youths by equipping them with relevant ICT skills and ensuring that they were absorbed by the private sector after acquiring those skills.
“Also to be unveiled today is the Youth-on-line TV/Radio which will expose and promote the creative industry of Anambra State. I have also approved the setting up of a Film Village and Creative Center. It will serve as an all-in-one center for the production of Nollywood films, drama, music and other art forms.
“And just yesterday, the Executive Council of Anambra State resolved to build two mini-stadiums in every community in Anambra State to serve as modern training facilities for our youths. In doing this, it is our hope that the sporting talents of Anambra youths will find greater expression and in due season, we shall dominate the sports arena in Nigeria and across the world. We have already set aside the sum of N5 million per community for these facilities”, he said.
The governor further said that work was progressing at a fast pace at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umuawulu/Mgbakwu adding that it was one of the priorities of his administration and hopefully it would be ready for use by next month.
He continued,” Today also, we shall honour Corps Members who distinguished themselves with outstanding efforts during the service period. We shall be handing out Merit Certificates, Computers and Seed monies to these worthy Corps Members for their exemplary service to their fatherland.”
While re-emphasizing his faith in the youths of Anambra State, he reiterated that history had shown that the youths of the state had always risen to their full height to represent the best that Nigeria and Africa had to offer to the world saying “and I have no doubt that in the next five years or thereabout, some of the youths gathered here to celebrate today shall announce their arrival on the global stage with their own exceptional talents.”
Speaking on the theme of the event, “Transforming Education”, governor Obiano pointed out that the theme sought to underscore the need for a more qualitative education for the young ones even as he added that education was a “multiplier of development” that enriches the lives of individuals and societies across the world.
He observed that “There’s no better way to prepare the youths for a meaningful life than Education. That is why my administration has continued to invest heavily in education. We want to give our youths the best chances in life.”
