…As Anambra CP orders security around Onitsha Correctional Centre

A three storey building located at No. 22 Nkisi Aroli Street, Onitsha belonging to one Chukwuma Njeka has collapsed.

The building collapsed yesterday at about 8am following a heavy downpour.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police command, Mr. Haruna Mohammed  said that no casualty was recorded adding that the value of property damaged was yet to be ascertained.

While stating that the Commissioner of Police Anambra State, CP John Abang visited the scene of the building collapse, the statement further said that scene was cordoned off by the Police to prevent looters from taking advantage and to clear the rubrics.

The CP later on visited the Onitsha custodial centre formerly known as Onitsha prison where the rear fence of the prison also collapsed yesterday at about 6:30am following a heavy downpour.

“The CP ordered for immediate deployment of Police personnel to secure the Area. However, no casualty recorded and no inmates escaped due to the collapsed fence”, it added.
