The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), the premier Chamber of Commerce and a leading voice in the organized private sector (OPS) in Nigeria is in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross to hold a Sensitization Forum on Humanitarian Partnerships and Social Investment .

The forum, according to the organizers, is aimed at deepening the private sector participation in humanitarian social investment in Africa.

The Sensitization Forum will hold on Thursday 12th September, 2019 at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos at 10am prompt.

Muda Yusuf, Director General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) said: “The event is a further commitment at sensitizing and deepening the involvement of the Organised Private Sector in humanitarian partnerships that could engender social investment in Nigeria and Africa.

“This is expected to enhance the effectiveness of humanitarian action based on ethical obligation and accountability to the citizenry, acknowledge diversity as an asset, promote quality and ensure transparency.”

Yusuf also added that, “The humanitarian challenges facing our nation at this crucial time, especially in the North Eastern region of the country, calls for an urgent action to be taken to stem the tide of increasing dehumanization being experienced by Nigerians. It is to this end that a collaboration such as this is worthy of note and commendable.

“While acknowledging the efforts of government through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in addressing the humanitarian challenges faced by the country, it is imperative for the private sector to join forces with government to bring succour to the affected group of people.”

Yusuf further stressed that, “basically, the event is expected to sensitize the business community on the imperative of scaling up its engagement and contribution to social investment in its operating environment and positively impact the society.

“Guests expected to attend the event include: President, International Committee of the Red Cross, Mr. Peter Maurer; Chairman, United Bank for Africa, Mr. Tony Elumelu; Chairman, First Bank Plc amongst others while Mr. Babatunde Ruwase, President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be the Chief Host.”
