Baring last minutes hitches; all is set for the 2019 audition of contestants into the 4th edition of Face Of Maritime International (FOMI) beauty pageant.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos by the organizers, the group said that necessary arrangements had been put in place to ensure a hitch-free casting on Saturday, September 7, 2019.

According Mr. Sylvanus Obasi, the Project Director of FOMI, “over 100 contestants have registered and are ready for audition on Saturday. We are in touch with the contestants via our WhatsApp platform.

“We have sent them the audition requirements in terms of dress code, hairstyle, type of makeup allowed as well as what to expect during the audition. The girls are in high spirit and we envisage a successful audition on Saturday.”

Speaking further, the FOMI founder revealed that the venue for this year’s audition would be the Auditorium of Customs Training College, Ikeja, Lagos adding that the audition would commence by 9am dot.

He said that the theme of this year’s FOMI audition is hashtagged #I’m onboard. This he said is in line with the theme of 2019 Seafarers Day earlier marked by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) whereas the central theme of FOMI 2019 contest is “Empowering Women within the Maritime Communities”, which is also in line with IMO’s theme of 2019 World Maritime Day.

Obasi also hinted that notable maritime dignitaries had been invited to address the contestants and also witness the casting.

Recall that Face Of Maritime International is a yearly industry pageant of international standards which advocates greater participation of women in maritime careers.

FOMI was founded by Platform Reporters in July 2016. The aims and objectives of FOMI are built on four pillars, namely: to change the perception that maritime is all for men, to champion Girls-Go-To-Sea campaign, to promote Nigeria’s maritime tourism potentials and to mentor and empower young women in maritime career path. .

Conditions for eligibility include; contestant must be a female from any country of the world, could either be a student, a young professional or a graduate, must have SSCE as minimum education qualification, contestants/graduates from maritime academies or with maritime background is added advantage and contestants must be between the ages of 18 and 28.
