Contrary to report making the round that 12 primary School children have been abducted from the Central School, Awkuzu in Oyi Local Government Area of the state, the Anambra State Police command has said that there was no official report about missing persons either by individuals or the school management about the alleged kidnapping or missing of 12 School children.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Haruna Mohammed who disclosed this in a statement in Awka on Sunday however said that at about 2pm last Wednesday, a case of missing persons was reported at Oyi Division by one Ekeke Ngozi of Umuobi village; Akwuzu that two of her grandchildren went to school but did not return home.
Mohammed disclosed that Police circulated the signal through the control room adding that the following day, one of the missing child namely Chiemerie Nwafor, aged Six years, was found by Police operatives attached to 33 Division and reunited with his parents.
He noted that effort was being intensified to find the second missing child, one Onyeka Nwafor, aged about Six years old, wearing the school uniform, yellow top and green short, dark in complexion, about 3 and half feet tall without tribal mark.
“Meanwhile, apart from the above incident there was no any official report about missing persons either by individuals or the school management about alleged kidnapping or missing of 12 School children”, he said.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP John Abang had directed the Divisional Police Officer, Oyi Division to visit the school and confirm through their records whether there was such incident adding that the public would be updated with any further development.
“The command implores members of the public with useful information about the child’s whereabouts to report at the nearest Police Station or through the following Police emergency number 07039194332”, he concluded.
