Missing school child found, reunited with family in Anambra

… As Police says report on missing 12 school kids false

Six year old Onyedika Nwafor of Umuobi Village, Awkuzu in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State who went missing after school since the 23 October, 2019 has been found.

It will be recalled that this medium reported recently that the Public Relations Officer of the  Anambra State Police command, SP Haruna Mohammed disclosed in a statement in Awka on Sunday that at about 2pm last Wednesday, a case of missing persons was reported at Oyi Division by one Ekeke Ngozi of Umuobi village; Akwuzu that two of her grandchildren went to school but did not return home.

Mohammed disclosed that Police circulated the signal through the control room adding that the following day, one of the missing child namely Chiemerie Nwafor, aged Six years, was found by Police operatives attached to 33 Division and reunited with his parents.

He noted that effort was being intensified to find the second missing child, one Onyeka Nwafor, aged about Six years old, wearing the school uniform, yellow top and green short, dark in complexion, about 3 and half feet tall without tribal mark.

“Meanwhile, apart from the above incident there was no any official report about missing persons either by individuals or the school management about alleged kidnapping or missing of 12 School children”, he said.

However, speaking in a statement in Awka on today, SP Haruna Mohammed said that the missing child was found along Ifitedunu in Dunukofia Local Government Area of the state at about 7.20pm on Tuesday and was reunited with his parents in good health condition.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP John B.Abang, fdc appreciate the continuous support of Ndi Anambra and urges them not to relent in providing useful information to enable  the command enhance safety and security in the State”, he added.

On the issue of the alleged abduction of 12 Primary School children from the Central School, Awkuzu, the command’s spokesman disclosed that in compliance with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, the Divisional Police Officer, Oyi Division personally visited the School and interviewed the Head Teacher, Mrs. Josephine Onyekwena who confirmed that the social media report on missing 12 kids from Central School, Awkuzu was false.

His words, “Further to my earlier rejoinder on the above matter and in compliance with the directive of the Commissioner the Divisional Police Officer personally visited the School and interviewed the Head Teacher Mrs. Josephine Onyekwena  and she confirmed  that the Social media report on missing 12 kids from Central School, Awkuzu is false.”
