…Promises to build on gains of his predecessor, AIG Mohammed
The Edo State Police command on Thursday witnessed the official handing over of the command by the outgone Commissioner of Police, now Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Danmallam Mohammed to the new Commissioner of Police, CP Lawan Tanko Jimeta.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor on Friday in Benin, the Edo State Captial, the command was agog with the presence of Senior Police Officers, eminent personalities, civil society groups, Human Right Activists and the gentlemen of the press during the ceremony.
AIG Danmallam Mohammed while handing over office of the Commissioner of Police, Edo State command to CP Lawan Tanko Jimeta, informed the media that he had been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police by the Inspector-General of Police IGP, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu saying that by all standard, he would no longer occupy the office of the Commissioner of Police, Edo State by virtue of his elevation.
He informed the new CP that Edo State was very unique and strategically positioned as one of the economic base of the nation adding that it was an exit state to the South-East through Benin/Asaba expressway, to the South-West through Benin/Lagos expressway, to the North through Benin-Auchi expressway and to the South-South through Benin/Warri expressway.
He however told him that all his achievements was as a result of the support of the senior officers of the command, the general public, good people of Edo State and the media.
He therefore prayed to Almighty God to see the new Commissioner of Police through in Policing Edo State.
Responding, CP Lawan Tanko Jimeta thanked the outgone Edo State Police boss for the good jobs he had done and legacy he was leaving behind and promised to build upon the existing security measures he built so far adding that by the grace of Almighty God he will make Edo State safer than he (Mohammed) left it.
The handing and taking over ceremony ended with mixed feelings, for those who would greatly miss the presence of the outgone Edo State Police boss and for those who immensely look forward to a good working relationship with new Commissioner of Police Edo State command.
