The wife of Governor of Anambra State and founder of Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE), Her Excellency, Dr. (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano (Osodieme) said that “No woman should be subjected to violence because women represent everything that edifies humanity.”

Mrs. Obiano made the plea in a special message in Awka signed by Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Emeka Ozumba on the official commemoration of the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25th November 2019.

According to Mrs. Obiano, every time a woman is subjected to any form of physical abuse, it diminishes humanity.

It is noteworthy that the UN dedicated this day to create heightened awareness of domestic violence. It is also followed by 16 Days of Activism this year under the theme: “Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands Against Rape.”

She said, “The day is an opportunity for us to join not just our voices but get active in our homes, neighborhoods and workplaces in condemning but also preventing all vestiges of violence against women.

“This special day, behooves on all men and women of goodwill to act with caution in their relationships and promote peaceful conduct and stability at home and all works of life. Let us join our voices and condemn all forms of unlawful physical contact against women; rape, battery or molestation of the girl-child. “

Osodieme stressed that “as an advocate of women empowerment, I am aware that the ability of the woman to contribute to the upkeep of the home helps in building peaceful coexistence and tolerance in the home. It leads to stronger family ties and bonding among couples. Let us therefore encourage our women and avoid actions that may lead to friction and physical violence against them.”

Furthermore, she noted that the global commemoration lends support to all persons and institutions, especially states like Anambra, where the welfare and safety of women are given priority by ensuring that their voices and talents are not subdued but recognized in the scheme of things.
