Police rescue 15 inmates chained in prayer house, arrest Prophet, 10 others

The Lagos State Police command has arrested a 58 year old Prophet, Sunday Joseph Ojo and ten (10) others for illegally running a detention camp in a prayer house.

A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Bala Elkana in Lagos on Thursday said that at about 6.10pm on Wednesday, a team of detectives from Isheri Osun Police Station led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Chike Ibe, acting on information from a reliable source, stormed a prayer House used as detention camp at No. 26 Alafia Street, Oriofe Ijegun Isheri, where the Prophet and his accomplices were arrested.

It added that fifteen (15) persons who were chained on the legs were rescued.

Some of the victims, according to the statement, were said to have spent five years in the detention camp adding that the victims were between ages 19 and 50, males and females.

It further stated that some of them where brought by their families to seek spiritual help from mental illness and other diseases.

The statement said, “The Prophet said he has been in the healing ministry since 1986. That he chained them in order to prevent escape. Investigation is ongoing. Police are working closely with other agencies of government to provide adequate medical attention and shelter to the victims.
