… Describes motion as timely
A group under the aegis of Anambra Patriots has commended the member Representing Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Engr. Chris Emeka Azubogu on his recent motion on the urgent need to investigate the violence and Killings in Oraifite town in the state.
Engr. Azubogu whose motion on the floor of the House of Representatives was aimed at averting further breakdown of law and order, also called for a detailed and incisive investigation into the incident.
The motion by Azubogu is coming on heels of the incident of December 2nd, 2019, where a clash between some policemen and group of persons in Umunakwa Ifite in Oraifite, Ekwusigo LGA of the State left many persons killed including some senior police personnel and the destruction of public and private properties.
The group in a statement released yesterday in Awka the state capital, hailed Engr. Chris Emeka Azubogu for calling for a thorough investigation into the incident with a view to ascertaining the remote and immediate cause of the incident and to forestall further escalation of violence.
“We wish to state that motions like this will open up investigation that will allow a third party to sit as an umpire and give every interested party equal opportunity for fair hearing.”
The Anambra Patriots also stated that without setting up an investigative panel, many innocent citizens may be victims of indiscriminate arrest by security agencies especially the police which lost two of its officers.
The foremost socio political group affirmed that by setting up panel of investigation, various stakeholders in the constituency especially people from Oraifite who lost dear ones or properties during the crisis will ventilate their positions.
The group therefore, called on the Federal Government to continue to see Oraifite and every part of Anambra State as peaceful irrespective of the recent mayhem adding that crisis should not be used to define Orafite town or Anambra State as a violence prone area.
