The Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘A’ of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) now has a new Acting Controller. He is Deputy Comptroller Usman Biri Yahaya.
Yahaya who since May, 2019 took over the mantle of coordinating the affairs of the zone and to ensure zero tolerance for smuggling under his watch has recorded over seven N7,002,562,669.08 worth of seizures in six months.
The Unit under his watch has continued to make seizures on a daily basis especially in the month of July.
Some of the seizures made include three (3) trucks intercepted at Badagry-Mile 2 Express way. On examination the vehicles were found to contains one thousand, eight hundred and twenty-five (1,825) unregistered Pharmaceutical products with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N310, 600,000.
Also, a Mack truck with registration number GGE471XX with eight hundred and forty-nine (849) cartons of Really Extra, Labumol, and PVC injections with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N484, 500,000 was impounded within Lagos metropolis on information.
Prior to his appointment, Yahaya who was a Deputy Comptroller had served as the Western Zonal Coordinator of CGC Strike Force Team.
Yahaya has promised to step up the tempo of anti-smuggling activities in the area.
Speaking while taking over from the former Controller, Aliyu Mohammed, he assured, “We will continue in the transformation agenda of Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali’s reform, restructure and revenue generation of the Federal Government.”
The new Controller added that he will oversee uncompromising enforcement of all laid down rules and directives while working to make the place a no go area for smugglers and persons involved in other forms of illegalities.
