Journalists International Forum for Migration (JIFORM) has explained the choice of Villanova Polytechnic, Imesi-Ile, Osun State as venue of its anti-human trafficking summit.
The one-day event is slated for March 24, 2020.
JIFORM, a non-profit and anti- irregular and human trafficking media foundation has over 150 seasoned journalists as members apart from others across the globe.
Speaking in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Tuesday during a courtesy call to the state’s Commissioner for Information, Mrs. Funke Egbemode, JIFORM President, Ajibola Abayomi said the institution fitted into the rural integrated communication approach of the foundation based on its location.
“After JIFORM 2019 international summit in Abuja and participation at the world migration conference in Tunisia, we had designed an integrated communication approach to reach the people at the grassroots as regards anti-irregular migration and human trafficking advocacy.
“The current trend is disturbing. Many Nigerian youths are being trafficked and tricked to embark on unplanned journeys leading them to sad tales. JIFORM was particularly impressed that the wife of Osun State Governor, Mrs. Kafayat Olaitan Oyetola is passionate about these issues and had been at the forefront of rescuing many stranded Nigerians abroad.
“As a role model and pride of journalism, speaking to the minds of the youths in your capacity as Honourable commissioner will go a long way to sink the message into the minds of the audience at the event. We require the support of your office and government to succeed”, Ajibola requested.
Responding, Egbemode hailed the courage of JIFORM in expanding the frontier of journalism to serve humanity.
“You never can tell which family would be involved as victim in these touching issues. In fact we must all be concerned.
“The youths must know that nowhere in the world is wealth designed to be amassed overnight. Things take gradual steps to come to fruition. From conception of pregnancy to the delivery stage and child development to adulthood takes gradual process”, she said.
Egbemode, the former President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors pledged to study the JIFORM proposal presented to her by the President and do the needful in due course.
Earlier at Villanova Polytechnic, both the President and the Chairman, Planning Committee of summit, Yaqoub Popoola had met with the Head of Department of Computer Science, Mr. Asanbe Michael and the School Bursar, Mr. Felix Idamarhare.
Both staff of the polytechnic reiterated the commitment of the institution to ensure the success of the event.
Popoola said the foundation was willing to work with the school and neighboring villages in order to raise the consciousness against irregular migration and human trafficking.
