Police commence enforcement of social restriction order in Anambra

The Anambra State Police command has commenced the enforcement of the social restriction order in compliance with the with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, and in line with the guidelines and directives issued by both the federal and Anambra state governments in order to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Haruna Mohammed who disclosed this in a statement in Awka on Thursday noted that all public gatherings had been suspended till further notice adding that night clubs and bars, traditional marriages, community festivals, masquerades festivals, funeral/burial ceremonies, baby christening, title taking ceremonies and any meeting of more than 30 persons had been suspended forthwith.

Mohammed also said that all Academic and non-academic institutions, vocational, Nursery, Primary, Secondary, Tertiary institution either public, private or mission owned must vacate immediately as no academic or extra-curricular activities were allowed even as he added that schools and other facilities that failed to shut down voluntarily would be forced to comply accordingly.

He further stated that henceforth, number of passengers to be conveyed in commercial vehicles had been limited to the following; Keke-2 passengers, Shuttle Bus-4 passengers and Minibus-6 passengers respectively.

According to him, “The public is to note that the Police and all security services in the State are geared to enforce these restrictions to the letter in observance of overriding public health interest.

“All are therefore enjoined to postpone their social events, commitments and all gatherings of any kind that may attract more than 30 persons. Persons invited to such events especially those travelling from outside Anambra State to attend are strongly advised to cancel their trips as those events will surely not be allowed to hold.

“Members of the Public are also advised against visits to Police Stations and other security formations, except when the visit is absolutely necessary on security grounds.”
