…Arrest four suspects; recover truck loaded with 900 bags of cements
The Anambra State Police command has arrested four robbery suspects who allegedly hijacked and diverted a truck loaded with cement after allegedly inflicting deep matched cuts on the driver leaving him unconscious.
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Haruna Mohammed disclosed that at about 5.30am on Sunday 26th April, 2020, there was a report that a Howo truck with Registration number AAA 715 YA loaded with 900 bags of cement belonging to BUA Cement Company, Okpelle was snatched by a robbery syndicate at Uromi village in Edo State and the truck diverted towards Anambra State by the suspects after allegedly inflicting deep matched cuts on the driver leaving him unconscious.
According to Mohammed, following the report, Police operatives attached to Head Bridge Division in conjunction with the command’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) quickly mobilised to Onitsha Head Bridge and intercepted the truck leading to the arrest of the suspects.
The suspects according to him were; Anayo Ulugha, aged 26 years of Orlu in Imo State, Omoke Chigozie, aged 28 years of Orlu in Imo State and Joseph Agu, aged 24 years of Omuma, Imo State even as he informed that the suspects voluntarily confessed to have snatched the truck same date at about 4:30am and was heading to Imo State before they were intercepted.
“Consequently, the suspects further led Police detectives to Orlu in Imo State where their gang leader, one Chinonso Onuigbo ‘m’ aged 44years of Orlu in Imo State was also arrested.
“It would be recalled that similar incident took place few months ago between Onitsha – Owerre Road in Anambra State before the Commissioner of Police, CP John B.Abang, fdc ordered for intensive patrols along that axis thereby forcing the syndicate to flee the State because of tight security measures put in place by the command.
“Meanwhile, exhibits recovered from the suspects include; the snatched truck, 900 bags of cements and a machete which they allegedly used to attack the truck driver. Case under investigation after which suspects would be charged to Court for prosecution please”, he stated.
